ILHC Recap

I was so smitten by my Smithsonian experience that I never said anything about ILHC.

It was a great weekend. I didn’t get to dance a lot. Other than the three songs at the Lindy J&J and the other three at the Balboa J&J, I only had about four social dances.

Which is pretty pathetic for an event of this kind. The live music was amazing and the best dancers of the world were there. Problem is, there is always a line up of women for every good dancer and I just wasn’t in the mood for staying in line. Besides, since I don’t travel that much for dancing, I’m not very well internationally known.

What I did do, though, was catching up with old friends. And of course, making new ones!

On Friday night, first thing we did, my daughter and I, was to get a vintage hairdo done by Alicia Vance of Bella Braids

8 days to go for the International Lindy Hop Championships

A week from today I’ll be half way to Washington, DC

And I don’t think I’m anywhere near being prepared for it.

Remember, my funny daughter decided to register me for both the Open Lindy Hop Jack & Jill and the Open Balboa Jack & Jill without telling me.  Oh, yeah.  She’s VERY funny.  FYI, she’ll be competing in the Advanced division.

Granted, she posted this on Facebook late on Saturday night:

Not sleepy anymore so I decided to do a little late night embarrassing: At last Saturday Night Swing, I was sitting down, taking a little break, when I saw awesome swivels out of the corner of my eye, in my mind I said “whoa, who’s swiveling like a badass over there?!”, I looked, and realized that it was my mother. It was a very proud daughter moment :)

Life goes on

The last few days came and went by in a heartbeat.

I watched The Dark Knight Rises on Thursday and a movie (Total Recall, if you must know) at home on Friday. I played with the kitties. I slept a lot. I listened to music. I taught Lindy Hop on Saturday and Balboa on Sunday. I DJ’ed at Saturday Night Swing.  Only thing I didn’t have time for was drawing and I really miss it.

But most of all, I did a lot of thinking.

For a while, it seemed like I was at the edge of the cliff. That any minute now I was going to lose my footing and fall into that dark pit depression is.

But I didn’t.

I’m still terribly worried about my son, of course.

But I can still enjoy the little things. I can still be overwhelmed by that hydrogen bomb of cuteness little Satchie is.

I adore that little runt

This past weekend in a nutshell

[Gawd, I hate when my work gets in the way of my blogging. This post was supposed to go out yesterday]

I had a very eventful weekend.

The Swing Dynamite exec in full (namely, me, my daughter and her boyfriend) went to Montreal for the weekend. We had many laughs, great conversations, brunch with friends, dinner with other friends and I even got a medal!

This was my weekend, in a nutshell

The Balboa Noem

To Montreal I went

to dance some balboa

and see a few friends

I had a great time

danced many a song

chatted with dear friends

and a medal I won.

But in spite of the fun

– you’ll say, oh, so sappy,

I was very happy

to come home to my boys

30 Day Challenge & Bootcamp auditions

I know I said I wouldn’t reblog here all the posts for the 30 Day Lindy Hop Challenge and yet it seems like I’m doing it every day.  But so far, it seems like every day is about something that my non-dance readers would enjoy as well.  So there.

Day 6: Your favorite group dance (Mob Dance)

As it turned out, I was gonna blog about the Summer Bootcamp audition anyway, and it ties nicely with today’s subject -as you’ll find out if you read my post over at the Swing Dynamite blog.

I may seem silly that I got so excited about the audition.  I was part of the teams before.  But for some reason, I thought ALL team members needed to audition again.  You see, Swing Dynamite is going through a process of major changes in its teams.  Some teams will be no more and some new teams will be created.  So I got a little confused.

30 Day Lindy Hop Challenge

Day 5: Your favorite Lindy Hop variation dance (charleston, balboa, shag)

Me and my partner in the Strictly Division at the Canadian Balboa Championships 2009. We placed 6th

Incidentally, one of the best Balboa weekends in the world – the All Balboa Weekend, was happening this weekend in Cleveland, Ohio.  All my [Balboa] friends were there.  My Facebook feed is flooded right now with pictures from the weekend and statuses on who won what and how amazing the weekend was.

Le sigh!

*Shakes fist*  One day, world.  One day!
