Crazy COLOURlover

Remember when I told you about my new thing? Well, I am having a grand old time with designing stuff. I found this awesome site called COLOURlovers (and yes, It has the right spelling! w00t w00t) and apparently I now eat and breathe colours.

I am having so much fun. I am still a n00b, of course, but I am getting the gist of it. I still don’t have the skill to create my own pattern templates but I am starting to get good at creating nice patterns with other people’s templates.

Wanna see?

This is my most recent one and the one I like the most so far! I am very happy with it :)

Not Interested In Being Offended

Posted the following on Facebook (picture included) about 20 minutes ago. Then I decided to make it into a blog post because reasons:

laugh at yourself

This is the perfect complement to a FB conversation from yesterday. I was talking about how I love “Squirrel!” jokes but someone found them offensive and out of line. Two things, methinks:

1. While I do not want people to laugh AT me, I do want people to laugh WITH me! I laugh at myself all the time and it’s always nice to have some company when laughing . I don’t take myself seriously. Ever. Seriously. Did I slip and fall? Go ahead and laugh your head off cause that crap is funny as hell (just make sure I am ok at some point)

2. Finding something offensive/being offended is a personal choice. If you find something offensive, that doesn’t mean everybody else does. You know, you might be over-reacting. Hey, it happens! Or you might have a good reason to be offended but that reason may apply to you only. Don’t ask everyone to be offended just because you are, providing the joke/issue is not a matter of human/civil/animal rights and/or equality.

3. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. But you don’t have to agree with me and I certainly do not have to agree with you.

4. Laughing is good for… Squirrell!!!…..

A Sidlet wanted a Fairy Garden…

One fine afternoon in Lansingland, Sidlet 2 said she wanted a plant for her room. The Sidlets room has a lovely window with a nice window ledge that is just perfect for a plant. So a couple of days later we went to get a plant. While there, I saw all this cute thingies and suggested making a fairy garden instead.

Needless to say Sidlet 2 thought it was the best idea ever. We got all the things we wanted, which required going to three different stores (Thank you Sid and Sidlet 1 for being so patient) and then we got to work!

We cleared the table and set all our stuff. I took a short bathroom break and when I came back, Sidlet 2 had drawn a garden plan! That girl is impressive. I thought I had taken a photo of it but I can’t find it but you can sort of see it in the first photo of the gallery.

California Adventures

Another dream come true for me in less than a year. It all started with DC, last August.

Then, out of the blue, I ended up getting this fantastic gift from my daughter (with a little help from her boyfriend): A trip to San Francisco!

IMG_2360

It all started with a family wedding invitation to B & N. The wedding was happening in Sacramento but B & N were encouraged to fly into San Francisco. N knew San Fran was in my Bucket List and invited me to tag along but I couldn’t manage to make it fit in my budget. Continue reading

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW!!!

I woke up to this!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Now I don’t care I’m coughing and sneezing and my head feels like it’s going to implode any minute now. If I weren’t so sick, I’d go for a walk. No matter.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…..

My first Canadian party

I’m going through difficult times and I haven’t been in the mood for writing so I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite posts. This one I wrote a while back, in the old Blogger days

Summer Solstice Musings

So, here I am… In Canada. The dream of my life!

Now comes the adjusting and the learning. Some situations are quite funny actually. Like the time when I was invited to my first Canadian party.

I get invited to this party -I had been living here for about a month or two.

Naturally, I am very excited. I show up fashionably late. You see, in Colombia people are always late -particularly for parties. You tell them the party starts at 10 pm, they show up at 11:30. You tell them it starts at 9 pm, they show up at 10:30. You tell them it starts at 8 pm, they think you are joking. Parties down there really don’t “start” till past 11 pm and they go way up till 5 am or later.

Continuing with the story. I show up fashionably late. The house is already full of people…

It’s Monday again

Which for me, means nothing.  Every day is a Saturday for me.

I love my job.  I can sleep in every day which is very important for me.

You see, ever since I was very little (since I was born, according to the stories from grandma) I’ve been a night owl.  I suspect I have a mutation on one of the genes that control the Circadian clock, most likely the Tim (Timeless) gene because day light (or light of any kind) does not wake me up.  And I also suspect this mutation is hereditary as both my children are night owls as well as my sister.  We simply cannot wake up early in the morning.  We simply cannot go to bed at regular hours.

So both my daughter and I have perfect jobs.  We go to bed around 2 -3 am and wake up around 11 am- noon.  Absolutely perfect.

Anyway, hope you guys had a great weekend.

Mine was pretty good.

On Saturday, I went shopping with my daughter in the afternoon.

I got a wet shirt (like a wet suit but just the shirt) with SPF 50.  Water shoes -they called them aqua socks. Last year my feet were very sore from walking barefoot.  The concrete gets very hot and it actually burns your feet while your walking from one slide to the other.  I was NOT gonna let that happen this time around.  Those shoes feel like a sock actually.  Best $8 I’ve ever spent.  I also got a good pair on sunglasses -albeit very cheap cause they were on sale, so I wouldn’t be heart broken if I lost them.

Unfortunately, the shopping spree took a bit longer than I thought, and I was worried cause I was very tired by the time I got to the studio.

I had figured I’d take a nap between shopping and deejaying and I’d be OK.  When I got home at 8:55, I realized I was deejaying at 9:30 pm and NOT at 11 pm like I had previously thought.  So, I had to forget about the nap, quickly change and run to the studio instead.

In spite of being so tired, the set went very well. I was happy with it and people seemed to like it too cause I got a lot of compliments on it.  I got home at 1:30 am and crashed immediately.

On Sunday, I didn’t want to get up when the alarm went off but then I remembered what the day had to offer and I got up with a smile on my face.

We started the day with a yoga class at the studio.  SO good!  Best way to start a day. Continue reading
