Happy Summer Solstice

2016 is a leap year.

That means the June Solstice comes a day early this year.

Now -in case you forget- I was born on the June Solstice, which occurred on June 21 on the year I was born.

However, since today is the June Solstice, and since I was born both on the June Solstice and on June 21, I declare I shall have a two-day birthday celebration this year!

Because fun!.

Sooooooooooooooo,

Happy Summer Solstice 2016

from the Summer Solstice Girl, for those of you in the Northern hemisphere

And for those of you in the Southern hemisphere, Happy Winter Solstice. Please know I am very jealous of you and I’d trade places with you in a heartbeat if I could.

And Happy Birthday to me! :)

I’m a Page!

I finally did it!

I had been toying with the idea for a couple of years not. First I thought of a website but that idea never crystallized. Finally, I got tired of always wishing I could make a difference but not really doing anything about it.

Well, I did use my personal Facebook as a platform for my activism. Those who are friends with me there, know how bumpy that road is. And then there is A Canvas of the Minds, of course.

But I felt something else was needed. So after much procrastination, I followed my ADHD impulsiveness and Voilà:

The shiny brand new Summer Solstice Musings Facebook page!

And now, I even have a shiny widget on this blog’s side bar, see?

Well, this is a new leg on my journey. I have no idea where will it take me but I am excited.

Also, I don’t know if it is of any significance at all or not, but it is kinda cool that it coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day AND my mother’s birthday.

So yeah, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM, wherever you are!

Crazy COLOURlover

Remember when I told you about my new thing? Well, I am having a grand old time with designing stuff. I found this awesome site called COLOURlovers (and yes, It has the right spelling! w00t w00t) and apparently I now eat and breathe colours.

I am having so much fun. I am still a n00b, of course, but I am getting the gist of it. I still don’t have the skill to create my own pattern templates but I am starting to get good at creating nice patterns with other people’s templates.

Wanna see?

This is my most recent one and the one I like the most so far! I am very happy with it :)

Celebrating the Summer Solstice

I went to Montreal to celebrate my birthday. It was Zack’s birthday on Thursday  –  You know, he of The Jazz Monkey fame, N’s Balboa partner at CSC and organizer of the dances at the Rialto.  Thus, we thought celebrating our birthdays together was a good idea.

The adventure started on Thursday early afternoon with a haircut. Then we headed to Montreal for the Rialto Swings LIVE!

The Summer Solstice Paradox

This was my very first blog post, back in 2010. I thought I’d share with you today, given that today is, well, you know ;)

Summer Solstice Musings

Once upon a time a baby girl was about to be born… she was due some time late August, early September. But something went wrong and the birth ended up happening in June. On the Summer Solstice, to be exact.

Of course the Stork was completely unprepared -which is only understandable given that it was not supposed to happen for another two months. She was drunk completely wasted.

She misread the directions or dropped the compass or something and the poor baby girl ended up being delivered in a tropical country. Not bad – some would say, for someone being born on the Summer Solstice. You know, Summer… tropical… kinda the same thing, temperature-wise.

25 degrees Celsius (plus humidex) all year round sounds like a dream come true for most people. Not for the Summer Solstice Girl. With a high sensitivity to sun in the form of both light and…

Once There Was A Little Girl

Once there was a little girl

who dreamed of lands far far away

of snow and wolves and also bears.

The little girl, a woman she became

but her dreams, she never forgets

To the land of snow one day she came

And to the land of fjords? For sure one day.

In the mean time she revels

in all the things she loves in many levels

to sing, to dance, to jump, to whirl

cuz she IS the Summer Solstice Girl!

Old Summer Solstice Girl had a garden

And she misses it greatly.  Cause the Summer Solstice Girl HEARTS flowers.  All types of flowers.  The cultivated ones and the wild ones.
From roses to orchids. From mums to tulips. From carnations to violets. From pansies to irises.  Spring flowers. Summer flowers, Fall flowers.
Here a flower, there a flower, everywhere a flower-flower…
But of all the pretty flowers that be, the Summer Solstice Girl’s favourite kind of flowers are daisies.  All daisies, but particularly Gerbera daisies
aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?
Flowers and smiles go together. Incidentally, you can check this other post of mine, if you feel so inclined: Don’t want no flowers when I’m dead
Funny Factoid: I just learned (while looking for pictures of daises for this post) that the traditional meaning for the gerbera daisy is beauty and innocence. It made me smile.
