While I was in the land of the free and the home of the brave

See the flag?

But let’s rewind.

Remember my fundraiser?

Well, I managed to get a total of *drum roll*

woot woot

Which means we DO NOT get to see TFG in drag (seriously people.  What’s wrong with you?) but that’s still awesome.

So I went to Rochester to get my training.

It was a grand experience  in every way.

First of all, I got up at 7 am.  Was showered, dressed and fed by 7:45.  I you know me, you know what a fracking  big HUGE feat that is.

We were at the venue by 8:05 to find they had a nice buffet breakfast for us.  I proceeded to check in, say hello and eat a second breakfast.  I had a long day ahead and needed to be strong.

As it turned out, Alex and I were the only Canucks in the room so that made us an easy target for jokes all day.  Fun!

As the day progressed, I drank more and more coffee, ate more and more food, made frequent pee breaks and got my stomach made into a bigger and bigger knot.  Though stuff to digest.

Videos will follow soon.  Haven’t had a chance to process all the footage I have.

It was a great day.  I had a chance to meet many wonderful, passionate, caring people who -like me, are absolutely commited to make Childhood Sexual Abuse a thing of the past.  A girl can dream, can’t she?

I am afraid I’m gonna end this post on a down note.  What you’re about to read is not nice.  But in this case, I believe the shock value is not only useful but absolutely necessary.

Ready? Here we go:

  • 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before they’re 18.
  • About 20% of all the victims of sexual abuse are under age 8.
  • 50% of all victims of forcible sodomy, sexual assault with an object, and forcible fondling are under age 12
  • 1 in 5 children are sexually solicited while on the internet

Terrible, right?  But wait, it gets worse:

  • 30-40% of children who are sexually abused are abused by family members
  • As many as 60% are abused by people the family trusts
  • More than 90% of children who are sexually abused know their abusers

Now, if that doesn’t make you sick to your stomach, I don’t know what will.

That’s why it is SO important to create awareness and give people the right tools to prevent Childhood Sexual Abuse.

A big THANK YOU to all of you that helped me by blogging, reblogging, tweeting AND/OR donating

You are so bloody amazing. :) To be so committed to this…what a heart! I hope/know it will make a difference.

Sure, we missed the drag goal but at least we got close!

Got something to say?
